I so rarely get to attend a yoga class in the middle of the week, but since I had the day off yesterday, I took advantage of the time to meet a new yoga friend at the new Wanderlust Live studio that was inspired by the Wanderlust yoga festivals. The studio is located on 4th, between Brazos and San Jacinto.
While the Wanderlust Festivals are taking place this summer in Vermont, Colorado, California and Whistler, BC (Canada), a couple of Austinites who attended got an idea to create a new kind of studio. With the blessing of the Festival and the help of C3 Presents (ACL Fest and Lollapalooza), Wanderlust Live has a completely different vibe within the Austin yoga scene.
The idea for Wanderlust LIVE came from the Wanderlust Festival which is a one-of-a-kind, yoga and music phenomenon. It brings together the world’s leading yoga teachers, top musical acts and DJs, renowned speakers and top chefs and winemakers to some of the most beautiful locations in the world.
You can read their schpiel on the Wanderlust Live site.
So my friend and I tried out the Flow and Go class, which is a 45 minute vinyasa flow style class during the lunch hour. It was taught by co-owner Ashley in the smaller of the two studio spaces. The space was heated to 85 degrees, which made for a warm loose practice. We played with arm balances, which I haven’t done in quite some time but had fun in the process.
The sound is impressive in the space. I was commenting to my friend before class how I’ve had trouble at other studios hearing the teachers when they walk around while music is playing. But we could hear Ashley perfectly while the music filled the room.
I got to peek in the other studio space before a Yo Strong class started (yoga with weights), and there’s a sizable stage up front for a live band. I’m looking forward to coming back when they have more live music acts lined up.
I’ll leave y’all with some photos I took around the studio. They’ve done a wonderful job putting it together. And the women’s room has showers and lockers! Nice touch.
Your first class is free! I’m already perusing their schedule for the next class I want to try – maybe the Yoga Jam on July 14 with Gioconda and
el john of Thievery Corporation Sir Jackson. [Correction: el john of Thievery Corporation will now be performing on August 18.] They also have a little cafe in front. Definitely check this place out.
