Chair pose sucks

There. I said it. I hate chair pose, aka utkatasana aka “fierce pose” aka lightning bolt pose. Whatever you want to call it, I am just not that big of a fan. My thighs cramp up, and my shoulders burn. I’m sure I’m building a ton of muscle (and mental discipline) by holding this pose, but teachers like to torture us by holding it for.e.ver.

If I could express my emotions when it comes to chair pose, it would look like this.

I can’t be the only one with a nemesis pose. Who else has a pose they simply loathe?

    Garudasana – eagle pose. I think my legs are too big to actually wrap around. Although, I began ignoring the legs portion and using garudasana arms in other poses (forward folds, warrior 3) in my home practice and have noticed a considerable amount of increased flexibility in my shoulders. The pose you hate the most is the pose you need the most (or so they say). I wonder why you feel nauseous, that is interesting.

      my guess is the nauseous feeling comes when i’m looking up, and i’m having a hard time breathing with my arms up while my legs are shaking.

      in eagle pose, my shoulders always feel like they’re burning when we stay in it for a while.
