Review: The Kids’ Yoga Deck

The Kids’ Yoga Deck by Annie Buckley has got to be one of my favorite things I’ve bought for the big kid. I don’t know who was more excited when he opened this gift for Christmas – him or me. 🙂 I found this deck of cards at Whole Earth Provisions, which is based out of Austin and carries some of the most interesting educational kids items among many many other cool, cultural, wanderlusting, earth-friendly merchandise.

The deck comes with multiple colored cards for different types of postures and exercises, including breathing and meditation. You can either put together a sequence of cards to do with your kid, OR if you have a bossy 3-year-old like I do, you let him pick his own cards and work through them.

One side of the card has an illustration of the posture, while the other side has the kid-friendly name, a description and some ideas for how to do them. Since the big kid has gone to numerous yoga classes with me and his school also offers yoga once a week, he’s fairly familiar with basic poses. He really enjoyed “playing” with the cards and putting them together in whatever order he liked. I did find that he tended to stick with what was familiar, so I think as he gets older and has even more control of his body, we’ll continue to play and work on new poses.

I love finding these types of gift items that are fun and beneficial for my kiddos!
