Restorative Yoga Series

I’m a firm believer in balancing the hard and the soft in life. While most of my teaching schedule is vinyasa classes, I do offer a couple of classes to help students slow down each week. It’s even evident in how I teach my vinyasa classes. I try to save the entire second half of class to longer, slower stretches and a plump savasana at the end. The slower second half is JUST as important as the strength and stamina portion of the standing, heat-building postures. In my personal practice, I’m probably 75% restorative or slow flow at this point in my life and only 25% vinyasa or bigger energy play – especially while I’m following the My Peak Challenge workouts. I need restorative yoga to keep me sane and rest my body. I need meditation to clear the excess, the negative, the hopelessness, the drama, the anger, the cobwebs and other mental hang-ups that flood my mind. Without these practices, you’d find me buried under my kids’ filth day after day, crying myself to sleep. I …

How to attend classes at The 704

I teach three evening classes at The 704 luxury apartment complex each week – Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 pm. While these classes are complimentary for residents, they are most certainly open to the public! The studio can handle about 10 students comfortably. Here’s how to come to class if you’re looking for a more intimate yoga session with a gorgeous view of their lap pool. Prior to class, Sign Up Online to set up your MindBody account for FXFit. You can purchase drop-in classes for $10 each under Online Store > Training & Classes > Group Classes South. There’s also an option for a monthly membership at The 704 for $49.99 if you think you’ll attend more than 5 classes a month. Park in the north building’s garage, between Torchy’s Tacos and the Broken Spoke. You can also park in the main south building’s garage if you don’t mind walking across the Broken Spoke’s parking lot. Meet me at the gate 10 minutes before class. Email (findingdrishti@gmail), tweet (findingdrishti) or direct message via Instagram (findingdrishti) to let …

New class offerings in August + Quick update

ABP-ers asked, and management has answered. Starting August 24, new 10:30 am classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays will be added to the schedule at Austin Bouldering Project, taught by yours truly. (UPDATE: Tuesday and Thursday 9 am classes are also going up on the schedule with our other teachers!) These will be Vinyasa Level 2 classes, which are so much fun to explore and play. I love teaching these classes where we build on the fundamentals, and there is plenty of laughter as we test balance, body control and playing on our hands and heads. Mid-morning is my preferred time to practice personally, so I know my students will enjoy these classes! Quick update: Yes, I know my blog has been sparse this summer. Things have been really busy with my boys being home with me and my learning to balance teaching with fun family adventures. But it’s all been great! Bear Shark’s vocabulary and sentence structure have grown and gotten more complex with the help of big brother chatting his ear off. He has even …

Sun Salutations Workshop April 30

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 30! I’ll be holding a Sun Salutations workshop at Austin Bouldering Project, where we’ll dissect and tune up every aspect of surya namaskar A & B. Breath by breath, pose by pose, we’ll look at alignment, anatomy, structure, stability and modifications. Sun Salutations are THE cornerstone to any vinyasa practice, and this workshop will benefit both beginners and seasoned yogis alike. Early registration is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. Price of the workshop includes a day pass for climbing, sauna-ing and other ABP good vibes. Go to AustinBoulderingProject.com to learn more or stop by their front desk. REGISTER HERE Side note: Just to show y’all how much of a surya namaskar geek I am, I actually own this shirt in blue.

New yoga class offerings in April

Starting this month, I have two new class offerings added to my weekly schedule. First, Tuesdays at 9:15 pm, I’ll be teaching Restorative Yoga at Austin Bouldering Project. If you don’t know what restorative yoga is or haven’t experienced it yet, it is (more or less) a supervised nap in some delicious, relaxing, stretchy poses that often make use of every single prop available. The class is taught without any lights on so you can close the eyes and go deep within yourself. I always feel better, more rejuvenated, calmer, loved and serene afterward. And it’s the ultimate lazy yoga (short of getting a Thai massage). I am a HUGE fan of restorative and feel very strongly that it is the perfect complement to an active practice, like vinyasa, or life in general! Second, Wednesdays at 10 am, I’m back at Dittmar Recreation Center for all-levels Community Yoga. The Rec Center is under renovation, so we’ll meet under the covered patio around the right side of the gym. The weather looks like it will cooperate after a few …
