New Class Offerings, October 2017

School is in full swing in our household, so I’m making some changes to my schedule. I’m teaching a couple new classes at Austin Bouldering Project. Sundays at 2pm, Vinyasa 1 – for the days when you sleep in late and miss the 12pm Vinyasa 2 class with me, or you’re feeling low energy, or you want to bring a friend to class who’s new to yoga. Fridays at 9 am, Vinyasa 2 – in case you want or need an earlier option for your Friday. I’m sadly saying goodbye to my Tuesday 9:15pm Restorative at ABP. You’ll be in good hands with Tina taking over the class. It’s been a fun year and a half leading supervised nap time, but if there’s enough interest, I’d love to offer a daytime restorative option! (Leave comments on the comment cards outside the studio for management to see.) UPDATE: The 10:3o am classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday will all shift to Level 1. But do not fear if you’ve been coming to the Level 2 at this …

Intro to Ashtanga Primary Series

As you all know, the Ashtanga sequence has a very special place in my heart. It is where I feel at home. It is familiar, always available to me, and such a complete practice for me. I used it throughout both my pregnancies (with modifications) to stay strong and to also train my breath and mind for the big events. I’ve seen the decline of Ashtanga classes from schedules around town for years and years now. Maybe the numbers weren’t profitable enough to sustain those classes, but I’m always pleasantly surprised when I learn someone else is an Ashtangi. It may not be as trendy as Baby Goat Yoga or Harry Potter Yoga, but Ashtanga is and should honored as the foundational practice that led to vinyasa classes that we’re familiar with today. So we’re bringing Ashtanga to Austin Bouldering Project for Sunday Fundays in September! Phoebe and I will teach each session as an introduction to the Primary Series.  We will practice a modified version of the full 90-minute sequence and offer instruction to …

Restorative Yoga Series

I’m a firm believer in balancing the hard and the soft in life. While most of my teaching schedule is vinyasa classes, I do offer a couple of classes to help students slow down each week. It’s even evident in how I teach my vinyasa classes. I try to save the entire second half of class to longer, slower stretches and a plump savasana at the end. The slower second half is JUST as important as the strength and stamina portion of the standing, heat-building postures. In my personal practice, I’m probably 75% restorative or slow flow at this point in my life and only 25% vinyasa or bigger energy play – especially while I’m following the My Peak Challenge workouts. I need restorative yoga to keep me sane and rest my body. I need meditation to clear the excess, the negative, the hopelessness, the drama, the anger, the cobwebs and other mental hang-ups that flood my mind. Without these practices, you’d find me buried under my kids’ filth day after day, crying myself to sleep. I …

Intro to Yoga Series at ABP

This being National Yoga Month and all, September is proving to be a great month to kickstart or reacquaint yourself with your yoga practice. If you’re here on my site because I’ve been asking you (begging, nudging, hinting, demanding nicely) for years to come TRY some yoga with me, then clear your Sunday mornings. I’m leading an Intro to Yoga series at Austin Bouldering Project the next four Sundays (that’s September 11, 18, 25 and October 2). You don’t need any prior experience. You don’t even need a yoga mat as there will be some available in the studio. This is a true 101 series, where we start from the basics. These are 75 minute sessions with discussion, instruction/demonstration, workshopping of poses and plenty of laughter on the mat. If you have questions that begin with, “What does ____ mean?” or “Why do we ____?” or “How do I ____?,” then this is a perfect place to start. Hop in to one of these classes or come to all 4. No prior registration is required. Class starts promptly …

How to attend classes at The 704

I teach at The 704 luxury apartment complex each week – Mondays at 7 pm. While these classes are complimentary for residents, they are most certainly open to the public! The studio can handle about 10 students comfortably. Here’s how to come to class if you’re looking for a more intimate yoga session with a gorgeous view of their lap pool. Prior to class, Sign Up Online to set up your MindBody account for FXFit. You can purchase drop-in classes for $10 each under Online Store > Training & Classes > Group Classes South. There’s also an option for a monthly membership at The 704 for $49.99 if you think you’ll attend more than 5 classes a month. Park in the north building’s garage, between Torchy’s Tacos and the Broken Spoke. You can also park in the main south building’s garage if you don’t mind walking across the Broken Spoke’s parking lot. Meet me at the gate 10 minutes before class. Email (findingdrishti@gmail), tweet (findingdrishti) or direct message via Instagram (findingdrishti) to let me know you’re coming so I …
